Three Sentinels

On a quarter moonlit night
Upon a hillside grassed
Three sentinels, they gallantly stood
And watched the moonlight pass

Like pickets on a picket fence
Wrapped in words and sentiment
They held their line, no breaking time
To all they were a detriment

In snippets on that breezy night
The lovers words were craved
… to be a prince …she kissed … he loved
Didn’t want to lie … a heart … you gave

For that time the words were true
The sentinels stood, noble presence right
As forbidden lovers secretly embraced
Under moon of faith they held the night

On a quarter moonlit night
Upon a hillside grassed
Three sentinels, they gallantly stood
And watched the moonlight pass
