THE MAXIMALIST POEM   8 comments

THIS IS MY MAXIMALIST POEM
BUT I THINK IT MAY BE TOO BIG
SO BIG THAT I CANNOT EVEN READ IT TODAY
BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME IN TODAY TO READ THIS
SO I WILL HAVE TO TAKE SOME TIME FROM TOMORROW
TO BE ABLE TO READ IT ALL TODAY
YOU MAY THINK THE WORDS SMALL, INFINITESIMAL EVEN
BUT THEIR MEANINGS COULD SHAKE THE WORLD
WELL MAYBE NOT THESE EXACT WORDS
BUT CERTAINLY OTHER WORDS COULD
OBLIGATORY AND EXTRANEOUS FOR EXAMPLE
BUT NOT JUST ON THEIR OWN, BUT MAYBE
WITH SOME BIGGER MORE MAXIMAL WORDS
THEN THEY COULD MAKE A REALLY GOOD MAXIMALIST POEM
AND MAYBE SOME METAPHORS OR SIMILES
BUT WAIT, MAXIMALIST POEMS DON’T HAVE METAPHORS OR SIMILES
BUT THAT WOULD MAKE IT ALL TOO BIG FOR JUST TODAY
A REAL GOOD MAXIMALIST POEM COULD NEED
A WHOLE WEEK JUST TO BE READ IN A DAY
FRANK ZAPPA WAS A MAXIMALIST POET
BUT HE WAS GOD – OR IS THAT GOOD
HE WAS HUGE EITHER WAY
I LIKE MAXIMALIST POEMS,OR MAYBE,
I LIKE THAT I COULD WRITE THEM ALL IN CAPITALS
If I wanted to
